Default sony slim sticks

how are this things supposed to work? i've seen them today in a shop, three drivers for the mains, probably MTM, sub crossed at 350hz. says fronts are BR but i saw no port and also the drivers have the surround behind and shorter than the cone surface them so i looked like any sound on the sides should got canceled by itself in a OB fashion... they are flat, balanced mode radiators lookalike...

anyone knows?

It's a refinement of a design that's been done several times before. Nothing really new here, move along.

Here's an example from 1984:

they don't look much interesting to me, and their low sensitivity makes them even less intriguing, still they are not a common easy understandable design to me, not much for the flat cone or the rectangular shape: i don't get the strange sourround shorter than the cone surface placed behind the cone, more like a 'spider' to my little knowledge. so how is there separation between backwave and front wave?
