Default Tuning a Speaker cabinet

I have a quick question.. I have a folder horn W Bin cabinet that I am going to load with a JBL 2241 woofer, the Fs value of the woofer is 35Hz, should I aim to tune the ports in my box to 35Hz or is it acceptable to tune the ports to 40Hz as well/ i'm just not sure if the Fs value of the woofer has to match that of the cabinet.

Thanks
Glenn

Hi.

Port tuning is related to the drivers resonance in the box, not free air, in box
its always higher, you need to know Vas, Fs, QTS and Vbox for the proper value.

Having said that just tuning to 40Hz is not a terrible idea, low tunings are
actually quite flexible regarding boxes, unlike optimum higher frequency ones.

/Sreten.

My question is, the JBL 2241H woofer I am putting in these cabinets has a Fs value of 35Hz on the T/S specs. Now I'm not sure should I tune the speaker box to this value as well?

Thats a folded horn and horns are complicated, so get Hornresp (Download) and enter all the data.
Then you can see both the frequencyresponse and the excursion, to see what tuning gives the best compromise for your box+speaker combination.
