i have a crossover here that i cut years and years ago (probably ten years ago) and i cannot determine what wire goes to the mid, tweet, and woofer.
my best guess was that the red wire must be for the tweeter because it is after the capacitor.. but after fiddling around with the remaining wires, all sets perform as both the midrange and the woofer going well down to 25hz and up to 4khz. obviously i am not doing something right and i need some help.

The photo doesn't show the detail of the wiring layout well enough, Can you draw a diagram or at least take a better shot with all the wires laying flat? Do you have any of the specifications for the inductors and the capacitors?
I count 6 wires (clockwise blue, red, brown, black, green, white), 2 inductors and a capacitor. This appears to be a two-way (not 3 way) crossover. One large inductor, and a capacitor and smaller inductor suggests that this is a 1st-order cross for the woofer and a 2nd-order cross for the the tweeter. |

Looks to me like:
Red: tweeter + Brown: Tweeter - Black: Input - Blue: Input + Green: Woofer + White: I dunno Unless this was a series crossover. Naw, probably not.

the inputs are the two silver tabs where everything is soldered.
on the other side there are spring terminals. i can see all the wires laying flat already. maybe your monitor needs some brightness adjustment. (the photo is a little dark on the brown and black, but things are still intelligable) its a stock KLH 3-way crossover from the rear of a 12 inch woofer cabinet. somebody wants to use the crossovers for their vehicle and i dont remember how the wires went, nor can i figure out the 18? different possibilities of wiring the speakers as i originally thought. i'll take the pic down and edit it using a photo editor and brighten the picture then reupload it to satisfy your need. i dont have the values of the inductors.. but if i look up my model number, i might be able to find some crossover points if there is anything on the web posted.

I remember pulling apart a technics speaker, (3 way 10 inch paper woofer/paper cone tweeter + 'super' tweeter) a while ago, it had some kind of tweeter that was wired directly to the amp, it was very small and weighed next to nothing, and had a silver cone. Could it be that we are looking at a LP, PB crossover that had a similar tweeter wired direct?

I think what Pano said, but the mid is wired across the cap???

someone asked for a drawing / diagram of the layout so to see things better.
i have drawn one and posted: am i wrong to think that the.. capacitor is for the tweeter smaller inductor is for the top end of the midrange bigger inductor is for the low end of midrange and top end of woofer ?? maybe i should unglue these components and re-solder a circuit that i can understand

Couzld it be that the mid wa run full-range ? Then the large coil would be for the woofer and the highpass (cap & coil) for the tweeter and the blue one would go to the midrange.
In this case there must have been a very robust midrange (probably a small woofer) - was it ? Regards Charles |
