Default New Mid - Scan-Speak 15M/4624G

Is there anything to be excited about here? It looks like it's efficient and has a nice frequency response.

If it performs as well as the 10F it would be something of a class leader.

Very keen to see this driver used, mabye tested by Zaph too. On paper it looks brilliant, such a smooth response!

Looks like we started threads on the same day!

Aren't the Scan discovery drivers the new name for old Vifa designs being manufactured in Denmark again? It would be kind of strange if this was a new driver..

Some of them are, but Scan has also been releasing brand new drivers under that line too. The 10F is like getting Scan speak engineering at a fraction of the cost. The same with the Peerless HDS tweeter, which as I understand was always manufactured by Scan speak anyway.

Was it?
First they were manufactured by Peerless owned By Tymphany. Tymphany were owner of Scan Speak, but 2009 some investors bought Tymphany out and Scan Speak become again Danish company. Tymphany were the sales divison. So the case should be this way, that producer were de facto Scan Speak and Tymphany sold them under brand name Peerless (HDS product line (old 810921)?

From what I understand, yes.

It may use some old tooling from previous Vifa lines, but, overall, it is a new driver - I've not seen any driver quite the same as this one.

A few things to note, that might not be noticed unless you look at the driver in your hand: very well vented behind the spider. Very nice cast frame with quite thin legs (won't have reflection issues). The cone is a thin fiberglass cone with a coating on the back (I presume to damp resonances) and the edge of the cone where it meets the surround has flat cuts - I presume this is the "Penta-Cut patented NRSC technology" from Vifa?

It does measure very smooth, and, anecdotally, I would say it has very low distortion through the midrange.

I like it, based on the one I got to test I will buy a couple more [enough for a pair of speakers + a spare in case they become unavailable later].
