Default Combine 2 Speakers to Make 1 Enclosure?

Hello DIY Audio. I'm seeking opinions / advice on this DIY speaker project.

I have a pair of old Criterion 100B speakers that I really like - except its bass could be better. I read on line HERE that their 10" woofers have nice bass if used in larger 3 to 4 cu. ft. enclosures - port tuned to ~ 35Hz.

So I'm thinking if I cut a large hole in the bottom of the 100B speakers and the same size hole in the top of some larger cheap speakers, I could combine them. Remove the drivers from the larger speakers and cover the holes with a board that's been ported. Then the 100B speakers could use its enclosure space plus that of the larger speakers.

Opinions? Advice? You thing this would work OK? Thanks!

Sure it will work. Might be the ugliest speaker on the block but it will work if they have their numbers correct.

Yep, that's what I'm after - the ugliest speakers on the block... and these Criterions are ugly to begin with... lol.

I just can't get over how much I like their sound - otherwise I wouldn't consider improving them.

Thanks for your help.

Got a picture of your Criterion... some of them have some pretty nice Coral drivers (sometimes too many of them).

The grill doesn't seem to be removable. The back panel has screws for removal, but I haven't looked yet. I was last listening with them up side down.

All the criterions i had, had removable grills, but not removable backs... time to get the screw gun out. May signal that you have really old ones. (Or not)

My guess is early 70's - predating removable grills for many speakers. I doubt the drivers are of much acclaim - not much interest in identifying them. But I may replace the grill cloth some day and post a revealing pic.

I found this dial on the back that adjusts the tweeters useful - along with the equalizer on my receiver.
