Default Vas calculation?

Well Im a first timer on this forum so please excuse this if Im in the wrong topic. Im also a first timer when it comes to replacing speakers. I learned alot from a friend of mine but hes not always there so I needed some guys on a forum. like you So anyways I was thinking of restoring my fathers old speakers. The thing is that all the drivers are either ripped or rotted because of the foam.

So my first question to you is how do I calculate the vas right? I got the dimensions of my box and it came out as 8.5,19,11. L*H*W I did it as. And I changed it into fraction form. I got an answer as 1.03. I was looking at getting these woofers from parts-express. Parts Express But those seem to have a low Vas reading so I was thinking of these Goldwood GW-8028 8" Butyl Surround Woofer 8 Ohm | Parts-Express.com But a bigger problem occurred the vas is too high now. Is it better to get to low vas or too high vas? Im only gonna order from this site because of the prices.

Ill be back for tweeters.

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/psho...number=270-058 I was looking at these for tweeters. The old woofer measured 8 inches across as well as the tweeters. I tried my hardest for this. Thanks for understanding.

Cabinet volume ~1 ft^3.

It it sealed or vented?

Sealed is pretty easy, you take the woofer of interest and plug Fs, Qts, and Vas into a sealed box calculator and if you end up with a Q between 0.5 & 0.85 you are in the ballpark.

A vented box has an extra degree of freedom... if you are willing to modify the vent

Hello Dave, The speaker cabinets are vented. How would I get a box calculator? Thanks for the response.

Lots of on-line ones ... google is your friend.

And some for your 'puter.

Windows, Mac or Linux?

I have windows. Ill try to look around for one. Now would I be okay with one of those woofers that I linked to?

I seemed to have found one. But the biggest thing is that Im unsure of what kind of speaker to get. I don't know what the information means.

One of the easiest to use calculators is Winisd:
LinearTeam
You seem to be confusing Vas (a parameter of the loudspeaker driver) with Vb (the volume of your box.
The best way to see the relationship is to plug your drivers parameters into Winisd and see how they interact. The calculator will also let you see the effects of different box size & tunings

Wow I was confusing those two. Thanks alot! So the VAS is the parameter of the speaker itself? See Im just replacing the speakers with anything. I really don't want it to replicate the other speakers. Should I be okay with just any speakers aslong as I get ones reccomended for vented ports?

No, you need speakers with parameters which make them suitable in your box
