Hi everyone,
Long time lurker...first time post. I'm replacing the 8" woofers in my 3-way JBL LM38 speakers. The enclosure is ported with a 1.5" diameter tube and the interior volume is 1 cu. ft. I would like to know whether the Hi-Vi M8a woofer (see attached .pdf) ia a good replacement given the enclosure size and musical detail or would a Hi-Vi M8N or Hi-Vi D8G be better. I listen to all types of music but my goal is to be able to listen to classical music (kettle drum and upright bass - double bass) and have a clear, tight, and detailed reproduction. I will be replacing the 6" mids and 1" tweeters and crossover soon but I thought I'd start with the woofers first. Thanks. |

WOW... I feel like a major dope!! I don't have JBL LM38's!!!
I have these: JBL MR38 45Hz-20kHz 92dB sensitivity 150 watts 3-way 14mm Titanium tweeter 6.5" mid woofer 8" bass woofer Sorry for the mis-information, I was going from memory and memory isn't what it used to be. So as I mentioned before I want to replace the WMT speakers with something more balanced and detailed. So, I did some research and purchased a pair of HiVi M8a speakers. Swans recommends a 28 liter vented enclosure which matches the volume of the MR38. I think I can tune to the F3 without any issue. One thing I noticed about the M8a is the high impedance at 33Hz (65 ohm) I was wondering if I should build a Zobel Circuit for the speaker and if so how can I determine the Le? (The speaker is 8 ohm) I'm still looking at mid's and tweeters...so does anyone have suggestions that would make building a XO pretty straightforward? My amp is a SS Sony DTR511 which is about 40W per channel. Nothing fancy but something that serves its purpose. Thanks in advance. |
