Default diy in-wall three way

9h)This is for a music studio... room is 14'(w) x 20' (l) x 9' (h) . The idea is to have a very, loud, distortion free, full frequency speaker. All critical decisions during recording and mixing will be made on well proven near field monitors. These will serve to impress clients and as an alternate monitor to see how stuff sounds when really loud. I am not going for the ultimate level of finesse or detail here... just a robust, practical monitor that can, at the very least confidently make the high 20s in terms of low frequency extension.

I am considering building this because any commercial system of this size and power and this level of flexibility and speaker-to-room tuning ability will cost at least 5x what this build might cost me. We are poor

I am looking for opinions on my current selections, and how I can improve on it, given the price point. I chose the mid-bass and tweeter units based primarily on their power handling capabilities. As I understand, both the units can withstand up to 1000 watts. Unmixed music can have totally unpredictable levels. Such things are tamed over the mix process... therefore the speakers must be strong enough to take the punishment.

At this time, I'm thinking:

1 x Subwoofer per side powered by Peavey IPR 3000

1 x Morel CAW 638 6" Cast Frame Woofer per side - powered by Peavey IPR 3000 - crossed over @ around 3 KHz to

1 x Morel ET448 Elite Tweeter per side - powered by a Peavey IPR 1600

Currently, these will be managed by a Behringer DCX2496... hoefully to be upgraded to DEQX.

Apart from any general feedback, I want help in picking my subwoofer drivers.

I'm looking at

The Dayton Titanic Mk-3 primarily because its relatively affordable and has good specs as far as I can tell. Also the Peavey IPR3000, which is probably the best spec'd amp at its price, should be able to power it.

The Maelstrom-X looks very good, but its seriously pushing my budget. Will the Peavey IPR3000 be sufficient to power it?

Similar concerns with the Soundsplinter RL-P15... would anyone recommend this model over the Dayton Titanic, for my use?

Are there any others in the range of $300?

Thanks,

Checkout the Peerless subwoofers which are very popular and well-priced.
Subwoofer | Tymphany

I'm using the Seas L26ROY which is very fast, important if music is your main media

Also, I think there are better midwoofers around than the Morels.
Check out those by Peerless, Vifa and Seas

If power& budget are the directives , why not going to another path ?
Instead of such tweeter ,why don't you find a good compression driver ?
Efficiency pays and you won't need another amp or electronic Xo .
Such raise in sensibility would be matched by adding a pair of mid-wf ,as in a MTM configuration .
On the other side ..Building in-wall also would help in finding a good compromise for the bass , horn style ,so maybe a good bass performer with an attitude to midrange and a hungry tweeter would make the "thing" going
(2*Pi radiation phase coherent patent tm )

Thank you. Both those models look very good. Will they be able to move as much air as the speakers I had pointed to? I need it real loud.

I did. None of the models I could find have a max power rating of over 250 watts... mostly much less. I am scared that sometimes they may be subjected to uncontrolled amounts of power and hence need to have more power handling capability. Am I being overly cautious here?

Initially skeptical because there is hardly a single studio monitor that I know of which uses a compression driver. Then I chanced to hear the equator audio research q15s and they were great. I tried here to find out their make, but no replies.

Can you suggest a particular model?

Thanks,

From The voice of the theater to that compact self-amplified speakers you said you listened to. Why not a pair of 8" on a tall enclosure ,something like a Curvy Chang (for the proportions , see on the FR forum ) with a mid and a tw ?
