Default What you think of this all-Dayton speaker

I am thinking of making these speakers from Humble Hifi. What do you think of these Dayton drivers?

interesting idea, but look at the space he’s wasting in the crossover compartment (and under the boxes) , and a crossover that complex would make me look for a better driver that used fewer crossover parts, spend the money on the driver…
an alternative here: Zaph|Audio - ZDT3.5

Now that is quite the crossover. 21 components by my count.

Is it not sad the drivers take that kind of XO to get it right?

I wonder how long it took Mr. Gee to get that thing finished?

Did the XO cost more than the drivers?

Is there's any signal left getting to the drivers?

Whole I will always appreciate the knowledge of those in the field, one has to question this design, no?

"an alternative here: Zaph|Audio - ZDT3.5". I count 16 components.

From the web site, Tony has measurements that show very good flat response and a fairly flat impedance. What is to gripe about if the results show it is a good product?

"Is there's any signal left getting to the drivers?" Apparently there is, enough to measure.

Heybrook HB 100's, proof it doesn't have to be this way. (Google them).

I'm all for KISS, whenever possible, but that's not the same as saying 'It can't be done'.

The drivers are great. Good price, very low distortion.
I use the RS270 in my OB 3 ways. They are fabulous in my application, but I cross LR4 @ 320 Hz. My brother used the midrange in his Phantom update to great effect.
The hidden cost of these drivers has always been extra crossover components because of the out of band resonances. It takes a good designer to use them effectively.

Well, 8 of the components are resistors, and 3 components form the conjugate on input

Impossible to say how it works until its playing

Do you think there may be integration issue with a 10in. woofer and a 2in mid driver? The xover point between the woofer and the mid is around 700Hz. Can the 2in. mid driver handle down to 700hz? The plot shows a flat response but it's hard to tell if they integrate very well.

That is the question. Having never heard that speaker, I can only guess. I beleive Zaph tested both drivers.

Did he tested them together? The 2in. and 10in?
