When I got the dayton 12"s, there was quite a ridge. I rebuilt the whole waveguide accordingly, starting with the throat. In the throat I figured out the right section of plastic from a 2L plastic soda bottle neck to match the size requirement and went from there. It was still lumpy so I filled.... and added.... and sanded....

But you could cop out and add a lot of smoothness by just using modeling clay on the daytons.

Well, I'm sure that a change in angle is less of a severe discontinuity than a step ...
I avoid both.
