I have always avoided full range drivers because I was under the impression that a driver designed to perform at a specific frequency will always outperform something more generic.
"Jack of all trades, master of none" comes to mind. Recently I ran across the Tang Band W8-1808B 8" Neodymium Full Range Driver. This thing looks pretty amazing on paper and whatever users here and elsewhere I can find appear to be very impressed. So far, nobody has had anything negative to say about it. Too good to be true, what's the catch? Before I place my order, are these really pretty darn good or should I be more skeptical? I'm considering ordering a set and a 15" woofers to support the lower end in a 2 way OB design for 5.1 HT. |

Really? I thought I'd seen some negative comments here and there. Mostly in the Full-Range section. Maybe not....
And there is this new thread about the other TB fullrange. Open Baffle Project w/TB 1772 and AE OB15's

Yeah, I just saw that come up right after I posted.
Following closely. A while earlier I was set on planars but now I'm hesitating. Long thread about the 1772 I'm still reading here: Tang Bang W8-1772 Impressions. |

Open baffle 5.1 system? You must have a really big room.

I see your point and I was hoping the 15' x 30' room is big enough. If it won't work I'll just go with a ported enclosure instead. Already modeled a few options I think would work as an alternative.
Have my heart set on OB for a unique HT experience but it's not absolutely necessary. |
