Default The most impressive 2 way set-up I've seen, GOTO based

Hello, have a look at the site below:

The Audio Eagle - The Making of GOTO Horn Speakers a la Haigner

Some really nice stuff there. Front loaded concrete horn, constant directivity elliptical concrete horn. Really nice, over-braced cabinet construction.

And all is done with GOTO units. What do you guys believe about it?

pretty, the woofer horn is more for show, it's too shallow to do anything, the tweet horn looks deeper.

And concrete? try moving it...........

To me, getting the crossover point low aids intelligibility.
The di of the horn probably opens up below 2.5khz...........

400hz with a full range driver works better for me than 750hz-1khz crossover point and the excellent ev hr90 horn I think designed by keele (with an ev 1.4" dh7).

No this I've wanted to ask. Is the woofer horn just for show?

For example the Omnitop 12 has a similar short front horn (maybe a little deeper, and it's also having a compression ratio) and it is known to increase the sensitivity by a couple of db.

2 x Omnitop 12

Indeed CLS, on that site you can find several designs around that horn.

Bass horns are tricky.

For example, the altec a7 bass horn only has boost above 200hz (not very deep).
But the benefit is better signal to noise ratio when deeper in a room (it will sound better).
The same woofer in the same box without the short horn would measure the same deeper in a large room.

To me a bass horn should be close to 1/4 wavelength deep, and the mouth size gets big.
Think of the large jbl horns used behind movie screens, they are 3' x 3' mouth close to 3.5' deep and they cross at 500-600hz. Thats what it takes to maintain directivity to those frequencies.

My ev hr90 is obly 13.7" tall, it keeps directivity only to 2.5khz in the vertical place.

To get freq response of a compression driver on a horn, you combine to freq response of the compression driver with the di plot of the horn. That's on axis anyway, off axis or greater than 10' away, the off axis response will be what you measure.

I've wanted to try a 100hz bass horn but it would need to be 3.75' from driver to mouth and need 5ft2 sitting on the ground. Some designs can be a bit smaller.

Isn't it a 3-way? On the last two pictures it looks like there are tweeters on top

I would pay to get a hold of similar waveguides for my horn,woofers.....those look really nice!!

btw, what is the purpose of the brass counterweights behind the woofer?

Did everyone see the room this guy's got them in?

Bloody shame. Drop so much cash on the speakers then cripple them.

Hmmm , Not really , seems he would have been better off with a much shorter flare for that ?

Why would one use horn loading for such a short listening distance ?
