Default Help! Arielīs P13 recone, any chance?

Hi all

Rubber suspension of my Arielīs Vifa P13 are showing ageing cracks. Drives are no more than 5 years old if I recall.

ANY help or tips are ultimately appreciated.

JC

Default P13 Rubber Fail

Dr. Kurt Muller rubber surround, Fail.
Sorry Jose. It seems there is a problem on the (synthetic) rubber materials from the DR. formula or from the manufacturer/process. Could it be (China?) product quality? I wonder why.
porous and hardened Seas rubber surrounds

I use surrounds from here

I have six P13WH00 drivers. Purchased March 1, 2010. Only unpacked them to test and insure they were functional, so they're like new. Send email if you're interested in obtaining them.

I suspected my Ariels were getting a bit bass light, and the stiffness of the surround was quite noticeable when cleaning them. The P13's are around 7 years old I suppose. An in room measurement revealed 10dB down at 100Hz, so I ran an impedance check. Fs 147Hz!!!

New 2010/2011 P13s from original tooling manufactured by Scanspeak according to Falcon Acoustics.

The surrounds should not be an issue this time round I am assured!
I have 4 on order to get my Ariels up and running again, yipee!

Well, that's good news for Ariel owners. The only drivers that I could find that were even similar to the Vifa P13WH-00-08 were the Skanning Flex-Units at two to three times the price and slightly different mounting, which would be a major hassle for an already existing cabinet. The tweeters are still in production, so no problem there.

When I was shopping around for a Center speaker, the only one on the commercial market that sounded similar was the Dynaudio CS X, at a mere US$3200. With a bit of gulp, I went ahead and bought it, but one of these days (maybe soon) I'll replace it with a second-hand ME2, which will have a better timbral match to the existing Ariels.

Just to report excellent service from Falcon. All P13's came with 2011 date codes and made by Scanspeak in Denmark on the side. All FR's measured within a gnats of each other. I didn't do Fs as they are not broken in yet and I'm too impatient. Thanks to Lynn for such a musical speaker. Ariels now sounding liquid and voluptuous again even with 10hrs on the new drivers, heaven!
