I initially start to make a passive crossover for my focals Crossover questions … but at the end I was not sure what configuration will suit better for me I decide to go with active crossovers (minidsp)
My question now the focals crossover is at 3500 hz 12db/oct if I go to 24db/oct or even more can I go to 3000 ? The reason is tweeter have less boost on 3000-3500 than the woofer I post datasheet measurement any Tips on where to cros are wellcome Thanks in advance |

I don't understand actually what is the tweeter ? It is useful to have tweeter impedance. If it is a TN-45 you can go as low as 3kHz.
I suppose all is 4ohms impedance, all drivers connect positive polarity and you use a LPAD to adjust the level of the tweeter. The crossover 3kHz Tweeter : HP 18dB 10uF/0.15mH/15uF woofer : LP 12 dB 0.47mH/22uF Focal has done a 6/12db at 4.5kHz (I suppose 0.22mH LP and 4.7uF/0.15mH HP If you want a better sound i think you should cross as low as 2kHz. The woofer at 3kHz have a cone resonance, not good for the sound. You need a very good neo tweeter. The resonance frequency must be lower than 1500HZ. The original Focal's TNB tweeter can be use or seas tweeter 27TFFN or Monacor DT284 etc. The crossover 2KHz Tweeter : HP 18dB 15uF/0.22mH/22uF woofer : LP 12dB 1mH/22uF Note I work with the acoustic slope, here 24dB. Hope this helps |

As i said i will work with a minidsp http://www.minidsp.com/images/docume...%20plug-in.pdf so i would be able to play with different configurations at no cost as for the attenuation since the tweeters will have their amp i can simple lower the volume
The tweeter is the tn45 |

Looks to me like you almost have to cross at 3000, since both units are peaking strongly about 1/3rd octave on the opposite side of that point.
If your question is about the power handling tradeoffs of 12/ at 3.5k vs. 24/ at 3k, I think the increase slope will benefit much more than the slight crossover reduction hurts. Go for it. Note that since your woofer and tweeter are both rising significantly at crossover, you will end up with split crossover points: i.e. the woofer may need a 2500Hz electrical filter and the tweeter a 3500Hz electrical, to achieve 3000Hz crossover. Looks like i have to do a lot of trys and heare it again and again ,
the problem is that my ear is not that musical (i thing) to listen if i have select the correct point , but i will try For a moment i thing of buying a mic SUPERLUX ECM999 + THE T.BONE MICPLUG USB ... but i am getting out of budget and this period of time is not the perfect for doing that . But if i do is it going to tell me the truth about my selection ? Thanks in advance |
