I have a pair of Klipsch KG 5.5s in my main system currently, and they're the weak link. I've been thinking of booting them and trying a DIY build, but I have limited time and energy. I've recently come across a couple of ways to try to upgrade what I've got a bit, just looking for feedback on how much improvement I can get for the effort.
First, I'm considering ordering some titanium diaphragms for the horns from Bob Crites. Second I'm planning to add some internal bracing and Acoustistuff. Third I'll mortite the speaker spiders. Then I'll build some new crossovers and keep them outside the speakers. I may use an active crossover and a more powerful solid state amp to drive the woofers. I plan to incorporate some Linauem tweeters on top. I might replace one of the 2 woofers with a subwoofer driver in order to extend the bottom a bit. Anybody do something similar? Are the titanium diaphragms a significant upgrade in sound? |
