Last week I went to Kalihari, which has an indoor wave pool. I realized that this pool was a conical horn section and was being driven by a pure cross mode. It was very interesting to watch the waves as one could clearly see how these HOMs propagated. Even though the principle mode was a cross mode, the wavefronts at the edges of the pool always moved parallel to the walls. It was a very interesting thing to see peaks and dips across the wavefront (they are actually stationary) as it propagated normal to this wavefront.
