First of thanks to everyone for all the great advice and encouragement on this site.
Recently I scored a cherry pair of Rectilinear Lowboys that were rebuilt in 1985' with JBL drivers. They might have used Peerless or JBL for the tweets super tweets etc.don't know but I do know the midrange drivers are 5" JBL 2105 (LE-5-2) Alnicos and the woofers are 8 Ohm 12" JBL K120 Alnico guitar speakers that were reconed( now with paper dustcaps instead of aluminum) and refoamed with lightweight foam surrounds to make them suitable for Hifi I assume. Well the 20 years is up on the foam and it all literally just blew out after testing my new to me Sota turntable yesterday. I was thinking of refoaming the K120s with stiffer surrounds (I like the fact that they now have paper dustcaps) and use them for my guitar amps and putting new woofers in the Lowboys. I'll need something to match the 8ohm JBL alnico mids and small paper cone tweeters etc.. I'm not opposed to Dayton or anything economical as long as it's decent and a good match for the other drivers.Would they have to be Alnico woofers? Please advise once again with my gratitude. |

I’d get hold of the specs of your JBL woofer, see how that models in Winisd with the internal dimensions and port tuning of your boxes, then model a few available drivers and pick one that comes close (you may have to tweak box tuning and LP crossover tuning). Magnet material doesn’t matter, but you’ll need a driver that matches the mids efficiency.
