I would like to share with you a set of speakers that I have begun to build.
I wanted to copy (in sound, not really in cosmetics, that would take LOTS of work!) the Tannoy Prestige Sandringham SE. They use a Tannoy 2046 8" Dual-Concentric driver, with a mass-loaded transmission line box. It is made from the standard 3/4" MDF. Right now, they are running on the stock Tannoy crossover (2khz 12db, MKP caps and air-core inductors), but eventually will be bi-amped with an electronic crossover around 1.2khz, like the Sandringham SE. Binding posts are yet to be installed. I need your opinions on a few things: 1. What veneer or laminate would match well with these speakers? 2. Is there something better than Behringer for the crossover? 3. I need a base for them to keep them level. What should it look like? Also, please give any other thoughts you may have. |

Just want to point out that a 2,000 hz crossover on an 8" dual concentric is likely the best. The cut off for the horn is likely to be around 1,000 hz.
You can easily compare when you get the active crossover. Don |

As far as the veneer or laminate it's personal choice on your behalf. What to look for is the width on veneer as it can taper and make sure it covers your speakers on the width or you with need to join them.

Is the Tannoy 2046 8" Dual-Concentric driver sold online somewhere?

The only place they will be now is eBay, sold as ceiling speakers. |
