Tannoy SandringhamClone -- 8" Dual Concentric MLTL

I would like to share with you a set of speakers that I have begun to build.

I wanted to copy (in sound, not really in cosmetics, that would take LOTS of work!) the Tannoy Prestige Sandringham SE.

They use a Tannoy 2046 8" Dual-Concentric driver, with a mass-loaded transmission line box. It is made from the standard 3/4" MDF. Right now, they are running on the stock Tannoy crossover (2khz 12db, MKP caps and air-core inductors), but eventually will be bi-amped with an electronic crossover around 1.2khz, like the Sandringham SE. Binding posts are yet to be installed.

I need your opinions on a few things:

1. What veneer or laminate would match well with these speakers?
2. Is there something better than Behringer for the crossover?
3. I need a base for them to keep them level. What should it look like?

Also, please give any other thoughts you may have.

Just want to point out that a 2,000 hz crossover on an 8" dual concentric is likely the best. The cut off for the horn is likely to be around 1,000 hz.
You can easily compare when you get the active crossover.

I purchased a microphone and have used HolmeImpulse to complete some rough measurements of my projects. The graphs make it easier to objectively compare different speaker options such as crossovers or vent sizes.

The V8 is more of a pro audio speaker, and is built to get loud and handle a lot of power. The 2046 is built for studio monitoring and hifi use, and has a much more extended bass frequency response. The V8 would be louder, but less suitable for an MLTL because of the higher Fs.

I too have just picked up a set of these CSM8 and want to at least put them in a box to see or should say hear if they are worth putting into some good cabinets, I have the cans that they came in so might give them a go but they are not exactly what one would call pretty.
