I'm in the process of building a home theater speaker system. The center channel design calls for a Tang Band driver for a tweeter.
Parts-Express.com:Tang Band 25-1166SJ 1" Neodymium Tweeter | tweeter dome tweeter fabric dome neodynium tang band tb speakers I am accustomed to positive voice coil terminal to be marked with a red paint dot or some other way to distinguish polarity. However, the driver I received has no markings. Is there a way to determine the polarity of this driver without a definite marking? Thanks |

It's hard with a tweeter. With a cone speaker you can use a battery on the terminals to see which way it moves. You might be able to see it on the tweeter, but often not. A single AA battery is more than enough.
There are phase detectors and other measuring devices that will tell you, but you probably don't want to get into that. Why not give P.E. tech support a call or drop them a line? They may be able to help. They can tell you if the wide or narrow tab is positive. I think it's standard, but can't remember which! Anyone?

I've got a generic driver w/ broad side marked + and narrow lead marked - hope it helps. Also found a crossover from a different project with similar markings.

Thank you all for the help. I think I'll put a small dot of red paint on the wide lug just so I don't forget in the future.
best regards! |
