Default Screw on compression driver question

Hi all,

Just curious about screw on compression drivers. Are they left hand or right hand threads?

Thanks,
Nick

One other question.

How tight are these usually put on when assembled at a factory?

Any ideas.

The reason I ask is I have 2 p audio coaxial drivers and I cross reference the tweeter and it the same as a screw on one they sell. SO I'm trying to unscrew the ones on them.

Just don't want to damage them. I don't know how these are normally removed and installed though, as in tools used.

Thanks,
Nick

I have the bm-15cxa. I ended up sending a email to p audio and they said it was screwed on and it should only be hand tight.

I have tried to spin one off and haven.t had any luck yet. I'm going to try a spanner, have to buy one though.

The tweeter has a model number on the back of it's a bmd450s.

I looked it up and it's a screw on one. I want to replace them with a compression driver that has a lower frequency range.

I just broke them loose. There seemed to be some sort of light duty thread locking compound on the. I tapped on the flap spot on the back of the driver with a dead blow mallet and they both broke loose.

Now I have to figure out what to use as a replacement LOL.

Well you learn something every day! =) Thanks Nick.

Not sure what you're going to find to work, will be interested to know what it is. Plese keep us informed.
FWIW, the compression driver on the 18" coax will play down nice and low. Like 750Hz.

Hi Panomaniac,

Well after talking with my friend I think I will wait and try them out before changing them. See how they sound first.

But that good info. I wonder if the 18 uses the same compression driver.

By the way, I'm planning on putting these in onken cabinets.

Looking for screw-mount alternatives...

BMS 4540 ND is a screw mount driver

And the nice looking Celestion CDX1-1746

But you dont HAVE to use it as coaxial woofer
Changing dirver, you could consider a bolt-on in a waveguide/horn instead
