Default Potentiometers

I am thinking of putting in some potentiometers in the speaker cabinets I am working on.
Now can I just put em in line with the hot of each driver. Like after the cross over and the wire goes to each driver, in one of those we can put in the pot ? Cos I ahve no idea what sensitivity the woofer has vs the 86 of the mids and the 93 of the tweeter. Definitely have to turn the tweeter down, but if the woofer is high too, it also need trimming.
Thanks in advance.
Cool.
Srinath.

A couple of things - it would be a lot easier to give you a thumbs up/thumbs down if you drew a schematic of your crossover - exactly where the pot goes matters.

The other thing is that you better have a high wattage pot - 5W or so. It depends on the value of the resistance and the voltage you drive the speakers with...

You can`t trim the woofer hence it is all about obtaining as little resistance between the amp output and the unit

Variable L-pads go on Mid and Tweeter only. Now, if you say your mid is not good, then drop the mid (and buy a new one). For more detailed information give more detailed data.

OK L pads on mid and tweeter is an idea, of course I could do potentiometers on mid and tweets only.
I am trying out this JVC TV speaker driver as a mid - Parts express # 269-484. Would rather keep it and get a less efficient tweeter, or even trim the tweeter only.
Now I am using a standard crossover board - Parts express #260-122. It has a high pass filter obviously for the tweeter, and I plan to send 10K and up to it, a band passon the mid, and 1-10K goes to that, and under 1K goes to the woofer.
Sorry I am not sure how to put a pic. And I have a sketch form parts express, which I have to scan in too.
Now what is worse, I have a 8 ohm woofer, a 4 ohm mid due to running the JVC's in parallel, and a 6 ohm ribbon tweeter.
So am I doomed to have somehting sounding garbled in this thing.
Thanks in advance.
Cool.
Srinath.

The 4 Ohm mid is not going to be a problem for the xover if you use the right tables, is going to be a problem for your amp, if impedance gets very low in frequency. Make sure the xover is good for the ribbon tweeter also.
