Try these mics from LinearX Systems. Check out the M31, M51, M52 and the M53. We are using the M51 mic with their LMS v4 system

Hmm,

$150 - $350 is a lot of money for such a microphone. The Monacor MCE-2000 will cost around 4 EU at a local DIY electronics shop in Europe. Okay you have to make some modifications yourself ( http://www.linkwitzlab.com ) and build your own mic. amp but that will not cost you that much.

Also the Behringer ECM8000 (street price 45 EU) contains the Panasonic capsule.

Pjotr;

Sorry, I didn't realize what your budjet was LOL!! Been there, done that. My son and I had decided to try and make a few bucks doing speaker measurements, to turn a life long hobby into a small business. Within a year, the writing was on the wall that we needed a more accurate " professional " measurement system. The big deal was that we needed a quick and accurate way to measure Thiele/Small parameters and the LMS does that well.

It took us more than 2 years to save enoug money to purchase it. The M31 mic comes with the LMS and is the lowest priced mic on their list. The M50 series of mic's require a different power supply than the LMS provides, and are used where measurements of higher SPL's are needed.

Now, all we need to do is make enough cash for it to pay for itself.

Isn't Digikey in the UK? Their website has a little Union Jack on it?

Another option is to buy Rod Elliot's microphone housing and preamp kit. http://sound.westhost.com/project93.htm This will probably add up to more than a Beringer mic, but it does have a high level ouput, so you wouldn't need an additional preamp.
It can run off 9V or phantom power.

I have the kit, but haven't built it yet, also due to the difficulty/expense of getting the panasonic mic capsules. Unfortunately Rod doesn't supply them in his kit, despite it being an obvious idea.

Has anyone tried the linkwitz mod.I can't get it to work.A lot of buzz and oscillation?
These mics normally connected can't handle any kind of reasonable live music spl's apart from classical music.The problem is mainly in the bass where even low levels of bass lead to lots of distortion.
