Default Vifa D27 or DQ25 ?

The time has come to upgrade my Hivi K1 tweeters. I'm looking for someting affordable to cross at 1.8khz max LR4.

Affordability is on the top of my list, and the D27 is great value now as they are discontinued, but DQ25 had gained alot of following and excellent test results. And even cheaper.

Any advise?

1.8kHz : i will not use both of them. I will look for something with 500-700Hz resonant frequency. SEAS makes good tweeters. SB acoustic/peerless/vifa/scanspeak or Dayton ?
You have a large choice

You will probably need to use the parallel trap circuit Vifa recommend, but I don't call $80- each cheap

Thanks guys.

I'm using active xo, so impedance is no concern.

Madisound currently sells D27 at $22, so very cheap compared to local shop here in Melbourne.

My understanding is D27 had gain quite a following (?). I'd love to get seas/peerless/SB but having to buy 4 tweeters for dipole operation, the budget is quite limited.

I guess to rephrase the question: Which is the best/recommended tweeter between $10 and $25 ?

If you push far the resonant frequency, it's better for the sound. 900Hz is the maximum i recommend for your application. The choice is very small now.
Below 3kHz, the choice of a good tweeter at a decent price is very tricky.

SB Acoustics SB25STC-C000-4 19$

Vifa DX25 22$
I have used them, they are not as clean as SEAS tweeter but I'am very satisfied because they do their jobs well.

Dayton DC28F-8 13$

Neo3 44$ because can handle dipole.

Vifa D27TG45 1" Dome Tweeter from Madisound

Hi I just checked and it looks like Madisound is still selling the D27 45 - 06 at $37USD, add freight and you don't actually gain much on the local price, wait until our dollar reaches parity again

I'd recommend Vifa DQ25 or BC25 as highest value cheap tweeters.

Thanks!

SB25 did not fare that well in Zaph's test, and the bigger brother SB29 is out of the price range.

I'm seriously considering DX25 now . Even more with flat to 1khz extension. Do you find/hear that 3db shelf/dip at upper frequencies problematic?

Indeed. Some consideration on my application however needs low xo. Ideally 1.5khz but I'm willing to push to 1.8khz. Which seems to be what Zaph is doing with his kit. Basically 2nd order electrical to obtain 24db acoustic rolloff.

I observed however for his multi-woofer version the xo point is pushed up to 2.5khz.
