i got my heart set on the galactica... i know this is insane for a first time build. i just dont see myself wanting to do anyother speaker design. the blue prints for this design is kinda hard to comprehend. everything is metric and... just damn hard to understand. i get most of it. wish i could post a pdf file here to see if y'all could help. anybody here build one of these?

Looks fairly straightforward if a bit intense parts wise. I sure don't like those long tunnels behind the woofers.

You might be wise to "cut your teeth" on a 1st time build with fewer angle cuts.
OTOH, it's only a few sheets of material, right?--Go for it--! Don |

That's quite a monster. Looks like a bit of over-engineering to me. Two different woofers covering the same freuqency range, the larger in a sealed cabinet, the smaller is ported. Looking at the frequency response, I think one of those woofers would be enough. Looks like this speaker will have some heavy bass, 5dB above the rest of the response. Good luck with that midrange cabinet. I don't know why someone would go through the trouble of that laminated construction if you won't see it in the end (like translam). It sure will be heavy and solid though!

Wow.... Is this a DIY Avalon?
This would be hard to build for a carpenter let alone a first timer, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!!!! If it were me I would get all the parts CNC cut from plans. You could spend 'ages' by hand using trial and error or spend ages plotting the individual parts for machine cutting and have a much better chance of fit and finish. We are talking a week or three all day wood work here doing it by hand I'd be having a huge party if I pulled this one off first time!!! Best of luck and kick ***! Dean |

I have heard some of the PHL drivers in my friend Terry's very impressive system, detailed here - post 68 has the finished pics. Quote:
![]() Here is a great little converter tool that I use all the time when I talk to Yanks and have to put everything back into antique measurements. http://www.parhamdata.com/convert.zip You can get the Ciare 15's from Assistance Audio and they are often listed in his ebay store. You'll get a better response if you phone rather than email. |

The Klipschorn is a great speaker cabinet, but it is a difficult one to build. It has many double angle (bevel) cuts and is not appropriate unless you have a fairly good skill set. Also, some of the plans available for the Klipschhorns are inaccurate.
Building a Klipsch La Scala is a less ambitious project, altough the bass will not go as deep. Another alternative is building a Klipsch Jubilee. The plans floating around are not fully accurate but they will work well enough. However, there are a series of decisions regarding the HF section. If you are serious about a Klipsch build, you will get plenty of feedback over at the Klipsch forum. |
