Default Sensitive 2-way (pro woof + ribbon)

Has anyone tried simple construction using 8"-10" pro midrange/woofer + ribbon tweeter and crossed them quite high? High because ribbons don't like lower high's, you can keep distortion low. Directivity problem may occur because of woofer's directivity.

XO maybe 4000-6000 Hz depending ribbon tweeter?

You'll be looking for a pretty special PA driver that would go that high...

It's depends on the ribbon.

For pro application, possible if very well done, in general not very usable. Better use a compression driver. I never use a pro 8"/10" as high as 4..6kHz but in some case it is possible.

For HiFi, a ribbon can cross low Fountek NeoPro5i, you can cross as low as 1KHz with a pro 10"/12"
With a high sensitivity 8" you can use a neo CD 3.0 or a JP3 as low as 2kHz.

Yes 6 kHz is bit overkill but some B&C woofs may handle 4000 Hz.

It think there is no reason to cross Pro5i as low as 1 kHz even if it could be. I have "heard" from DIY designers than ribbon can sound distorted if it sounds good on paper if you cross them low.

If you can strech woofer up to 4000 Hz you can handle treble with much cheaper and smaller treble unit.
