I have just acquired a pair of KRK 6000 studio monitors. They are two-way speakers with Focal TC90K kevlar tweeters and Focal 6V013L polyglass woofers. The speakers sound amazing. But now after some repeated listening I can hear a problem in one of the speakers. One of the speakers seems to exhibit a harsh sound once every couple minutes. The sound will last for about 5 minutes, and then the speaker sounds good for a while and then it goes back to sounding harsh. Does this sound like a crossover problem or a driver problem?
I already ruled out the amplifier as the cause. The crossover in the speaker consists of two ceramic 10W 4ohm resistors, three coils, and two Bennic XPP capacitors (one 12.0uF and one 6.8uF). Are there any methods to test the crossover components? |

Alright I just figured out the problem. The front kevlar on one of the tweeters is touching something inside the tweeter at times. I wonder how I can fix this.

You can probably take the tweeter apart by removing the four screws on the front plate. Be very careful with it though, any damage to the voice coil will likely ruin it. Sounds like you have something lodged in the tweeter motor, maybe a chip of metal.
If it weren't for your description, I would be checking solder joints on the crossover as well.
