Default Troels CNO25

Just posting progress, pictures and comments on Troels 2.5 way CNO.

I started a while ago but have been very busy and took a while to get all the parts as it took a while for me to commit to the project.

So far i have mad the entire cabinet out of 25mm MDF (by accident lol) which greatly decreased the internal volume of the box as the outside dimensions stayed the same. I was lucky enough i added an extra 70mm to the length of the box as i was going to put the crossovers in a false floor at the bottom which i ended up just using that to bring the volume of the box back within limits (around 34L i think).

Crossovers have been completed with the exact parts outlined in Troels page.

I will be spray painting the baffle black satin on the weekend and veneering the rest of the box in Tasmanian Blackwood.

Will uplaod pics when i get home.

As for the drivers, well they just look sexy. I ahve had the speakers (one at a time) hooked up and playing music to test the crossovers were wired correctly and the detail from the nextel drivers is amazing even with no foam and the baffle not glued. The bass was non existent, and i put that down to the box not being finished (obviously) and many people have said that the bass comes into play after break in. They sound extremely easy on the ears, which is great as i live with music and not just turn it on for an album or two and try and critique every nuance (that how you spell it??)

Will be home soon to finish post

Great job Danski. The 25mm sides is a big improvement for such a large box.
Looking forward to seeing how that blackwood turns out.

Thanks for the compliments, criticism is also welcome

Ended up going to a 25th bday party so only the primer layer was sprayed this weekend. Everythign went ok except for me putting the baffle up on its side when it was still wet causing the spant to stick and rip off the side a little when i turned it back over. I will sand it back and try again asap before i spray it black satin.

Oh, i chamfered the driver holes also, but thats about it

Also waiting on veneering.

I have a question for you smarties out there, is there a way to measure the crossovers (with multimeter???) to make sure everything is soldered properly and resistances are the same throughout? or would it be unnecessary?

I am on the final coats on my baffles (black satin) so will upload some pics when done. I think the last few coats have to be very uniform as it is a bit blotchy, as if some parts are wetter than others and therefore shinier. Other than that, everything is sweet

This is what I have found also dan. I was playing around with the damping and deadening last night and couldnt figure out why there was very little bass. So I experimented with some damping wool and it improved, but not by much. Hopefully the break in will fix all of this. I too have used eggcrate foam, but I also added sheets of bitumen to the cabinets, along with 31mm mdf bracing and i can now safely say the cabinets do not vibrate much at all. Very pleased about that! I used 31mm mdf alround, and mitre cut the edges as it was a preveneered sheet. Makes life alot easier!

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I too was having the same bass issues, but overall a very nice speaker indeed!

Good luck with the CNO25 DanSki; I purchased the same kit from Denmark late last year and am currently in the process of building the cabinets.

Decided to try a design with curved sides, depending on how things go I might have to revert to a conventional rectangular design!

Let us know how they sound once complete, and post some pictures, I fear that it may be a while before my own pair are finished...
