Hey guys, I'm new around here and to audio design to was just wondering if I could pick your brains a bit?
Basically I am really into my music and movies, so am after something bridging the gap between HT and music use. I have a box of response drivers (from Jaycar, Aus) and vifa d19 tweeters sitting in my shed collecting dust and an onkyo home theater amp that I have hardly used, so putting 1 and 1 together... Ok, I know the drivers I have aren't exactly the pinacle of audio engineering, but seeing as they are new, cost me the grand total of a carton of beer and that I don't actually have any speakers at the moment I'd like to give it a crack. I have 5 tweeters, 4x 5" and 4x 6.5" drivers (ergo thinking bookshelf rears with MTM centre and fronts), the specs are; 5" Pe 50W Qts 0.47 Vas 7.30 Fs 67.60 Re 6.00 Z 8.00 Qms 1.4 Qes 0.72 Sd 89.92 Sensitivity 88dB 70Hz-7kHz 6.5" Pe 60W Qts 0.44 Vas 19.00 Fs 49.50 Re 6.00 Z 8.00 Qms 2.02 Qes 0.57 Sd ? Sensitivity 89dB 44Hz-7kHz I have played around inputting the specs into bassbox pro 6 and winisd. Both programmes gave me vastly different results in terms of optimum box design. Would I be right in leaning towards the bassbox results over winisd (opinion formed by the greater scope for input of specs)? Box construction is no issue for me, building custom fish tank stands for a friends shop in my spare time = a shed full of goodies ie router stand, panel saw, drill press, etc etc. I also have massive amounts of 18mm mdf and 19mm laminated wood panelling on hand. So basically after that epic long first post, I am in need of some direction with box and crossover design. If anyone could give me a hand in that area, or point me in the direction for a crash course in audio theory, I'd be most appreciative! Cheers, Ben |
