Default Refoaming Late Goodmans Magnums

Hi i have a pair of late Goodmans Magnum speakers, made sometime in the early 80s in a very nice condition. They have power indicator leds and mid and high l pads on the front. Sadly both of the 12" woofers have suffered from foam rot, goodmans have long gone (unfortunately) and despite looking around the net, i can't find a foam replacement that fits. I was wondering if anybody has refoamed these before, or has any idea where i could locate a suitable surround? I don't want to consign these to the skip over a simple refoam. I'm in the uk.

Many thanks,

Adam

I was just looking around on the net for "DIY speaker foam" and found plenty of sites. As far as DIY, I've done 6 Advent drivers, 4 with the masonite rings and 2 with the stamped baskets. The first kit came with new dustcaps and centering shims which I used. Later kits had no shims and I had no issues at all NOT shimming the voice coil. It just takes time for the glue(s) to dry. I removed the masonite rings and cleaned all the old gunk off and used the latex glue for the foam and silicone bathtub caulk to bond the masonite back into the baskets with a whole lot of clothespins around the perimeter until it 'cured'. The original glue for the masonite was contact cement but I don't much care for working with that. It's nice hearing them again as they used to be.

Hi, that sounds like exactly what I've been looking for - the original poster's description sounds exactly like the boxes I inherited, and the foam dimensions seem just right. Do you still have those?
