I have never ventured into the world of Pro Sound as far as DIY is concerned...only high end home audio and mobile audio to some extent. Pro Sound is very different in many respects but the same principles of sound and physics still apply. Enough prefacing...
My younger brother's DJ business seems to be burgeoning at this time and he is in desperate need of upgrading his equipment and stepping it up. Something I totally support him in doing. Knowing what I know about high end home audio and the small fortune that can be saved in rolling your own, not to mention sheer satisfaction and gratification that comes when your finished product sounds superior to a lot of over-hyped, overpriced retail offerings, I beam at the possibilities in the Pro Sound realm. I searched for some good DIY plans for Pro Sound speakers on the net, but did not really find anything that drew me in. The two plans on PE call for drivers that are no longer available. So, my question is, does anyone know of a high end sounding DIY plan readily available on the net? Something that hits right at that magic mark of being high performance/high value -- that point where in order to get better sound, you're having to spend a lot more money for very little in return. A good example driver illustrative of this value/performance ration in the home audio DIY realm would be the SEAS 27 TDFC tweeter (just to illustrate, I am not suggesting that this tweeter be used and abused in a pro sound application). I know Eminence and Selenium make incredible stuff, with JBL making equally as good stuff but charging 6x as much. These speakers would be crossed over electronically and would need the versatility of being able to play medium to large sized venues without distorting at high volumes. As far as this budget goes for these..."modest" is probably a good word. Thanks in advance. |

Oh, and if anyone has pictures of their work, that'd be great too!
