Hi hows it goin, i just joined the forum a few hours ago I am a complete newbie to this so i have many questions. I have been wanting to build my own custom tower speakers for quite some time. I want something that replaces my current logitech z5300e. My current budget is somewhere around $800 max, im not looking for a completely high end system but i do want something that is decent and has good mids and bass.
For now i just want to work on 2 tower speakers and then maybe adding a center bar in the future. The dimensions i have in mind are around 12W X 16D X 47H. My first idea was to have a tweeter along with 2 - 5" bass/woofer and 1 - 8" bass/woofer for each tower and then a separate box for a 10" subwoofer. And my second idea was to have one tweeter, 2 - 6" midrange speakers and 1 - 8" or 10" Subwoofer for each tower. My original plan was to just use car audio speakers since they might be cheaper, i had in mind to get some RE 6.5 Speakers or some Alpine Type R speakers but after doing some research it seems likes its much better to use equipment that is meant for home audio. So i have decided to go with Hivi, Seas Prestige, or maybe even Morel if its worth the extra dough. What i had in mind for the tweeters were - HiVi SD1.1-A 1" Textile Dome Tweeter - Morel MDT40 1" Textile Dome Tweeter for the bass/woofer i was thinking of using - HiVi F6 6" Bass/Midrange - HiVi F8 8" Bass/Midrange for the midrange speakers im thinking of using - SEAS Prestige MCA15RCY (H1262) 5.5" - Eminence LA6-CBMR, 6.5" Midrange - Pioneer FB11EC14-51F 5-1/4" Heavy Duty Cone Midrange 50 and for the subwoofers i was thinking of - Tang Band W8-740P 8" Subwoofer - RE REX8D4 8" - RE SE 10" I just wanted some opinion with people who have some expertise and help me in building my system. So far i dont have anything so to start off i wanted to buy the tweeters, speakers, and subs. And then continue onto getting some 3/4 MDF and a compatible amplifier with plenty of juice. If i could please get some help on what equipment to buy and then i could continue on researching how to build the box and hooking everything up. Also i have no idea on what type of amplifier would work I was thinking maybe a ONKYO 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver HT-RC160 would work but then i have no idea how i would hook it up. I would like to use the system for listening to music as well as watching movies, i listen to mostly hip hop and r&b so i really need to have some good mids and plenty of bass. Sorry for making this so long but i dont know exactly where to start and want to make sure i buy the correct equipment. Thank You. If any more information is needed please let me know. Here are the views of the items im thinking of buying option 1 http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...23/option1.jpg option 2 http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...23/option2.jpg heres an image of what i would love my system to look like just without the fancy design of the tower speakers. Also i wanted to keep the towers at about 42" height but i dont think thats possible. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...r-Speakers.jpg |

If you have the tools( and skills
) to drill holes and saw straight you can give it a try. You can try to clone the 3-way speaker you already found:1.618 - DIY 3-Way Hi-Vi Tower Loudspeaker Project It's very nice, but as your first project, it could be to hard. I'm also new to the speaker building part of DIYaudio. So I decided to make the Ikeaspeaker, read this: Ikea spherical speakers, first build done. I did it with a really cheap fullrange speaker. Another option could be to make a fullrange speaker wich is floorstanding: Fostex FX120 DIY ML-TQWT (Transmission Line) Speaker Project Easier to build, cheaper, no need for crossovers...
