Any reccomendations for 18" speakers for hifi? Everything I've found is for PA useage, I'm looking for something accurate with a high efficiency like 98dB+. Anything considered, I was looking at neodynium as quite feasible

The JBL 2245H was used in hifi for subs, and in studio monitors (4345) up to 300Hz.
It is 95dB/1W/1m |

PA drivers are generally designed for high SPL and this usually requires a high Fs as part of the design compromise.
Home reproduction requires replay of lots of different music/sounds/voices and this generally requires a lower Fs. There are few 18inch drivers with Fs below 30Hz and those that are, are generally of lower sensitivity, due to the heavy MMS that makes the extreme LF response possible.

Works great for a subwoofer (can easily be EQed to give a 15Hz cutoff with enough SPL to dislodge plaster), but it really doesn't do well at 250Hz and higher.

Not sure I understand your question
Coil winding depth/length is 22mm Pole plate is 10.5mm Linear Xmax is set to 9.25mm (P-P) Do you mean the 2mm remaining (22 - 10.5 = 11.5mm) ? They seem to be conservative with Xmax specs on many of their drivers I dont know, maybe its due to magnet field bending a bit beyond gap, which kind of increase the gap, thus shorter linear Xmax edit, the PD 15" seems the opposite with 10.5mm Xmax, (25 - 9 = 16mm), 8mm+/- over 10.5mm+/- This PD with great Xmax seems a nice choise to play with EQ Last edited by tinitus; 24th December 2009 at 02:32 PM. |
