Default 4-way wiring question

Hi all,

I'm actively eq-ing a pair of WWTM floorstanders with one amp per driver. That means running 4 +/- pairs of cable to each.

Is there any reason I couldn't sum the negative rail and send 5 leads per side instead of 8 (1 + per driver and 1 - for the four)?

Come to think of it, could I also do this between the eq and amps and use a 1 foot DIN connector per channel? My intuition tells me that I would be creating an impedance imbalance somehow that might introduce noise. Maybe the DIN connectors are not suitably insulated either.

Thoughts?

thanks

gary

I wouldn't do that since current is going to change the ground reference at the speaker which is effectively introducing cross-talk which can have audible effects if it stimulates driver resonances.

I used an 8-pole Speakon at the speaker, 8-conductor cable, and choose pairs with minimum cross-talk between tweeter and midrange so the tweeter signal doesn't stimulate the midrange cone resonances.

Thanks Drew.

I've admired the Speakon gear, it would probably be the most expensive component in my project. I'll take your advice, I will probably use 16 gauge lamp cord for each run instead of the 12 gauge stuff I'm using now to connect to the speakers' passive crossover (the run is about 10')
