What are good 8" drivers for a 2-way?

Completely open to that. I assume a more expensive one to get a low enough FS and low distortion to mate with most 8" drivers. Perhaps a Scanspeak illuminator D3004/602010 as it goes low or the Cheaper SB Neo looks good at less than half the price.

Seas W22EX...the driver SL uses in the Orion. Be sure to use a trap on the breakup.

Thanks you guys. Some great options. The SEAS Prestige P21RF looks like a very economical and nice option. I would want a tweeter that can go low as I need very good off axis response for these.

Silver Flute W20RC38-08, 8" Wool Cone from Madisound
I preferr the Silverflutes

And what to do about it?
Use a tweeter in a waveguide who controll the off axis response.

Better go fore at tweeter with low 500hz Fs

The choise of 8" should be justified by higher sensitivity, and better lows

Those use the Crescendo (no waveguide) with a Seas 10".

Tinitus, It is a design option for me with a 22 liter cabinet to go sealed. I am not convinced but I really like some of the options that came out of this thread. I think the 27TBCD/GB-DXT could work for my needs as this "Home Gym" speaker will be listened to off axis more often than not. As you said though it looks like a 2k or so crossover for this with the impedance hump and most of the eights will start beaming by at the point.

Presumably the larger cone area will give a little bit more bass extension for the large area. I don't want to give away the midrange doing it though.

How in the world, with so many options, does one make a choice?
