Default So...I got these RS-1 8 inch drivers and....

I am about to embark on my first speaker project with components that I have acquired over the years.

My goal is to build a home theater speaker package that will out perform most put together packages found at your average consumer electronics store.

I am looking for advice on what to do with and where to use my components. OK here are some of the components.

Infinity RS-1 8 inch driver. 5 of them.

Dayton 12 inch driver 4 ohm accordion surround. Don't have much info on them. I have two of these.

Here is what I was thinking.... Use one 8 inch driver in 5 channels or 2 8 inch drivers in each of the front channels and one in the center channel while coming up with some 6 1/2 drivers for the rear channels? My reason for coming up with option 2 is that maybe 8 inch drivers for surround cabinets is a little overkill? Or do you guys think it will be fine with having matched drivers all around?

Next there is the sub woofer. I do not have much info on the 2 Dayton's I have.
I wonder if they would make good sub woofers in a home theater setup because of there limited excursion due to them having an accordion surround. If the wont work for me no worries I will build another sub woofer.

So there you have it. Give me some input guys

Hi,

Right forum but we will need you to dig up some info on the drivers first. ie: T/S parameters. Without them it's a bit of a crap shoot.

Having all five drivers for the 5.1 system is a good idea. They can always be rotated if you feel the rears are being used less than the fronts.

That Dayton unit looks to be a PA driver so you won't get much extension of the low end. It's meant more for music than HT I think.

I think I've seen that Dayton before. Do you have the model number?

Dayton drivers start with letters. That looks like a cone number you have given us. I don't see any current offerings that match those. What size are they and approx how old?

Dayton looks like Eminence, but no surprice
Dayton is usually through PartsExpress, or ?

Looks like theres very small spider, which could indicate a pro midrange driver

There were some Eminence 12s that looked like that, I think. Hmmm....

Anyhow, you really ought to measure them. That's the best way to go.

Default Dayton

The only letters on this driver are G2. It's a 12 inch 4 ohm driver.

Have a look at Parts Express site and see how the Dayton units use letters that give a hint as to what type of driver they are.
