Default Orions completed with Aluminum baffle

Just completed my Linkwitz Orions. Verbatim from the published documents except for the front baffle which as broken and CNC milled from 1/4" aluminum plate.
And the sound is glorious

Enough with the teaser... More pics ?

Do you make any changes on the xo due to "cabinet" difference ?

Making changes to the xover is well beyond my pay grade.
Before i embarked on this little adventure, I spent an afternoon at Mr Linkwitz's home auditioning the speaker (we both live in the San Francisco Bay Area).
I discussed my vision for the baffles with him, and although he could not say how changing the baffles would alter the sound, he was none the less encouraging. In actuality the design does not differ substantially from the original:
1. The Woofer cabinet is identical
2. The cabinet around the tweeter, because i have a rear firing tweeter (Orion +) is within 1/4" of the original schematics.
3. The greatest variation is at the mid; here i averaged the depth of the return on the original over the diameter of the mid driver.
It was several months ago since i hear Mr Linkwitz's, and although i am sure there are differences in sound (source components, room size) I am thrilled with the sound i am getting. Certainly better than anything i have built in the past and easily rivaling many professional setup i have heard of the years

Some more shots of the cabinets:
1. the mid mounting bracket is a broken piece of 1/8" aluminum.
2. I strung elasticized thread in front of the woofers to stop little hands from reaching in.

I thought for a second that you meant electric thread... That would sure stop them...

Very nice indeed. I like the no-nonsense industrial look.

Very nice!

How much did you spend on this project ie all parts(incl elect. x-over) alone not including labour? My rough guess is in excess of $2,500.
