Default Two-way or 2.5-Way?

Help! I would like to upgrade my speakers, probably with a Madison kit, but am unsure whether the ZRT 2.5-way Revelator Tower kit with two Scan-Speak 7" 18W/8531G drivers in a sealed 38litre cabinet would be too much for my room. An alternative is the 2-way kit with one Scan-Speak 18W/8531G driver in a ported cabinet? Would the 2.5-way image well in the almost nearfield position? I'm wondering whether there will be a beautiful mid-range or if it will be overwhelmed by the lack of space?

My room is 12' x 21' with my current standmount (1990-vintage) speakers on a long wall about 8' apart. The listening position is about 8.5' from front of speakers. I'm using a Parasound amp with lots of power (250w/channel) and listen to jazz (e.g., Duke Ellington, Cannonball Adderley, Patricia Barber), classical (orchestral, concertos, opera) and pop/rock (Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Roy Orbison).

My current speakers - Mission 762s, which have a fairly large enclosure - use a 6.5" woofer and while the sound is pretty good I think newer drivers may have better clarity and frequency response.

I think the scan speaks will be an upgrade for sure. I would leave the amp alone with the scan speaks.

Looking at Zaph's graphs, I'd be inclined to go with the 2-way.
You could always add the .5 woofer later if you decide you need more Lows.

2-way IMHO... never did see the point in another small driver if added bass is desired. Much better results with a larger woofer/sub.

Default 2-Way It Will Be

I had started to lean towards the 2-way because of the cost for a small performance difference. Thank you for confirming my thoughts. Ken
