Default Looking for help and advise on DIY project.

Hello all,

I'm considering a first build but not sure where to start!

So here are some info :
Country: North West, South Africa
Preferably DIY and an already proven project.
DIY skills and tools is no problem (regarding cabinet and soldering).

What speaker do I think I want ...
I'm looking to build a relatively high end neutral / full sounding speaker.

I'm wondering if it's possible to make some good front speakers, able to play music AND movies as I want to make rears and a centre speakers at a later stage (using the same manufacturers drivers as I don't know if other manufacturers drivers would influence the "sound stage".

My amp have a switch that gives it the ability to play two sets of speakers namely "A" for 5.1 and "B" for fronts only, this is where the idea first came to me. What if A = Movies and B = music ?
I was thinking of making the front speaker consist of 2 part, the bass speaker and on top the mids and tweeter and by switching the amp to "B" I use the full front sets for music and by switching it to "A" use only the top (mids and tweeters) and the rest of the 5.1 (which would be build later) with a sub woofer that's more suitable for movies.

Doing it this way, I think I`ll run into crossover problems but I'm still wondering if it's doable.

What if the sides is the same as the front would the bass be acceptable for movies and what do I do about the centre speakers if I want to Keep all the same ?

What is my budget ... 1.5K (dollars) for the front speakers.

My room/environment ...
I have two rooms suitable for this project.
1 = 8mW 8mL 2.8mH = 179 m3 covered with ceramic tiles and is currently a Living room.
2 = 4mH 8.5mL 2.8mH = 95 m3 covered with carpet and is currently the T.V. room.

Amp ...
I already have an Sony STR V-555ES amp that I would like to use (for once in its live).Specs 120 wpc @ 8 ohms and 100 wpc @ 4 ohms.

How loud do I wish to play ...
It really depends on the mood that I'm in and the music that I'm listening to at that time. Let's just say that if I want to play load it needs to go load.

What music do I like ...
Very difficult question because I listen to almost all types ... (Country, Rock, Metal, Pop, instruments ...ext) again depending on my mood and the persons listening with me.

The problem I'm having at the moment is that the more I read the more confused I'm getting. This is probably, in no small part ,due to my relative lack of knowledge in this area
Hopefully you can understand that we all have to start somewhere so please bear with me as I learn the ropes.

Also I don't know what any of these DIY projects sound like and if there are items that are to be considered 'off topic' please could you advise so I can avoid annoying anyone?

I`m open to all suggestions and sorry for the long introduction.

Thanks.
