Default help me decide...hehe: TL or BR?

Well my latest project WAS supposed to be a BR design, which i have stretched into a small floorstander, from the previous slightly-bigger-than-bookshelf size. I have done this by doubling height and changing the box section to a triangle(ie slanted back). it works out around 40" high, with a baffle width of about 7".

whilst doing this and whilst timkering with TL worksheets, it occurred to me that i could in fact make a straight, unfolded TL in an almost identical size box.

The TL would be 20:1 taper ratio(or 0.05 in MJKs manner) and the exit, though only 3 inch² is nearly double what i have calculated for BR within winISD.

As i dont want chuffing noises, this is an advantage to me over the BR design. also the TL gives me rather more scope to alter stuffing and tuning from aperiodic to reflex and all the grey between.

however, im still a little at a loss to decide, so? opinions anyone?

As soon as you stretched the box to meet the floor, it became a quarter-wave-resonantor -- a TL.

You are already modeling it in MJK. Just keep playing till you are happy, it doesn't matter what we call the box, MJK is a great modeler and it doesn't care.

I have four speakers and I'm building a box with two pairs in push pull configuration. I tried those in OB and with a hard equalization they sound good . So I think that in PP plus a tweeter it won't be bad.Thinking of putting the reflex port on the back.
The question is if with the speaker you have , what is the best project for it to make it shine the arguably good characteristics ?

Well, from that description, as Dave said, sounds like your 'BR' ended up as an MLTL (MLQWR) given the length & CSA of the pipe.

If you'll forgive a little amateur psychology, my opinion is that you've already made up your mind which you favour (the heavily tapered 20:1 line) & are just wanting one of us to give you a push. So get on with it! Life it too short to waver around with 'what ifs.'
