Hi all
Just need some technical input on which of these two speakers (same manufacturer, same size, etc) would be better for a speaker construction project. I know very little about parameters so go easy on me. That said the first and probably most important difference is that one is 8-Ohm and the other is 4-Ohm. The rest I am afraid I will have to rely on you guys. This is a list of the differences between the two...Those in black I could not confirm as the datasheets were different. The 'blue block column' refers to the graph below with the blue line and so on. [IMG] [/IMG]Blue One [IMG] [/IMG]Red One [IMG] [/IMG]I have built a couple of multiways and subwoofers before (hit and miss most times), but the problem here is that I am not familiar with working with detailed parameters and 1) Wanted to learn something useful and 2) Build something that actually sounded descent. This may belong in the subwoofer section, but thought to put it here as I would like to build them into multiway cabinets. Your patience with me and advise appreciated Wizard |

My guess is the 1st speaker uses lossy material, as shown by the lower sensitivity and lower mechanical compliance Qms, but lower nonlinear distortion.
Perhaps speaker1 is poly/coated paper, and 2nd is paper? Without distortion plot it's really difficult to know which one is better. Good read here on what makes a good transducer: Midrange distortion test

The voice coil diameter figures for both reads as 38.5 mm (1.5 inches). Is this correct for what looks like a woofer, given the other figures?

looks like the specs for Tang Band W69 series 6" by 9" subs. If my observation is correct the one you should choose will depend on your intended usage.

Spot on Jomotecc.
They are both paper cones gainphile The voice coils should be the same based on the designs schematics I have seen boconner See the dilemma guys. Both have good traits, but really that is why I asked which on paper as I have read that both are great performers. The question now is ... how is the impedance going to effect the result if you know what I mean. Thanks so far guys !!! |

What will you be driving them with?

They are both similar in terms of the main specs. I would go for the 8 ohm version as it is easier to drive and has higher BL and lower Fs while Qts, Vas and Xmax are also slightly more favourable.
But you have not told us anything about what you want it for, so the above may be completely the opposite of what you need...

Unless your amp can handle low impedance (<4 Ohms) I would not choose it. Or it will be fine with a plate amp.

for me, the question is: which is the best match to your mids (assuming 3-way) or Tweeter (2 way), in terms of sensitivity, taking into account BSC?
