Default Speaker builders - I need your expertise

Hi all. I am thinking of doing something a little unconventional. I have a pair of Martin Logan Clarities and in my system/listening environment the bass and upper freq sound okay, but what is lacking a bit are adequate mids - say from around mid 300Hz to a little less than 1kHz. So I am toying with the idea of matching an external XO and high quality mid driver that doesn't need a complicated baffle/enclosure to make up for the softness in these frequencies. For experiementation purposes, I plan on making these completely external for now and then when I get things tweaked correctly, I am considerning permanently moutning them onto the MLs.

So expert panel - thoughts, suggestions, etc??? Thanks.

Change placement, perhaps?

Adding complexity like this doesn't seem like a good idea, especially with a different kind of driver...

XO on Clarity is 450Hz, so perhaps you can home in on whether you feel the mids are lacking from the mid-woofer or from the ESL section?

My guess is the 'mid-range' sounds good as long as you place yourself in the smallish sweet spot? (from which there is no escape, by-the-way...)
