Default Paradigm Titan, 6 in "woofer", coil value?

I tried using an old HeathKit sig generator, that has been gathering dust in my garage for more than a decade, to figure out the value of the coil in the Titan 1 xover(Yup. I brought it up with a VARIAC)

It was stable to around 1Kc; the one volt output setting managed to get .5V

I used the measurements, which included 1.6 ohms for the coil and resistor in series, and 1.4 ohms for the resistor, and came up with garbage.

I asked Paradigm for the choke and resistor value. They won't divulge their design.

While I had the back off one of the speakers I made up a board with 11 .22uF 600V Russian FT-3 teflon caps.

Between the weight of the caps, first row 5, second row 4, third row 2, and the caps themselves, a BIG improvement over the Russian K40Y 200V caps I was using. For the time being, the pyramid of caps is inside the box--it decreased the volume.

Does the reading I got for the total resistance of the choke-resistor make sense? I measured a 5% 1K resistor and got .9996.

Since the reference I found on the net, how to measure the inductance of a coil was based up using a square wave, that is what I did and used DC to measure the slightly fluctuating voltage.

My objective here is to change the coil to a better one and change the resistor to a better one.

In the in the mean time, I've added bracing and goopy material to "seal" the inside of the box to my list of fun things to try.

After all of that, its time to find another speaker project to play with.

Best from Tucson
Bob
