I,m not sure yet whether I can afford the space for open baffles so to see how it looked I modeled two of my 15" Betas in a 230L closed box. Because the box is way undersized the response rose as the frequency decreased. The peak of the rise was about 2.2dB at around 60 - 70 Hz. The response at 50 Hz was level with the response just above 100Hz. The group delay was good all the way down and the thing would be Xmax limited at about 45Hz but I have subs. The peak xmax was about 6mm which is outside the 4mm linear given by Eminence but may be still with the danger limit. Assuming the figure given by Eminence is one way only.
The question is, can the baffle step be used to equalise the response between 50 - 60 Hz and 200 Hz. One baffle I modeled showed a rise of 4 - 5dB from 100Hz to 200 Hz. This would appear to be useable for the above purpose with any excess dealt with by a crossover between 200 and 300Hz. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. jamikl |
