I'm building wide baffle (80cm wide and 120cm tall) 3way based on SS D2905/970000 (in future replaced by D2904/710003) and SS 26W/8861T00. Currently I'm about to choose midrange and I think following options are best:
18Sound 6ND430 SS 18W/8531G01 Usher 8945P Following Zap's measures those have lowest THD. I've never heard 18W/8531G01 myself but people say that it is very transparent and transparency and "air" is my goal. 6ND430 seem really nice as far as efficiency goes, will it sound as transparent as SS? What about Usher? Any help appreciated. |

I'm listening to a 15/8531K01 (not the 18 but close) right now and I can say without a doubt it's one very fine driver. I haven't heard either of the others so I can't help there.

If you can keep the treble/mid crossover in the 4-5Khz region this could end up beeing a good speaker. That means you`ll have to look at smaller midrange drivers, like 5".
The SS9700 is near perfect if you know how to use it. Like not expecting it to play midrange, only high frequenses. Tell me when you`re "uppgrading", Ill buy them Btw; if you`re aiming for the top, try to do a 4-way by including a 2 or 3# dome to take care of the difficult upper mid/low treble region. Then you can use the big dome from about 2khz and up to it`s rolloff and then just add the tweeter to take care of the absolute top frequensies. This opens up for using a simple 1.order filter, and if that works you`re on tp something. http://www.swanspeaker.com/product/htm/view.asp?id=39 - or mybe: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/psho...57&ctab=2#Tabs |

Eneen,
I don't think those are the best 3 mids you can afford, from specs this is. Anyway look here for an SS 3-Way. http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Jensen.htm |

Yeah, I know this design and I think I've made mistake. I meant 18W/8531G00 not 18W/8531G01 which actually doesn't exist. Yes, I use same 10" driver as in that design.
True that Troels like it very much as midrange, but 6ND430 gives real good off-axis response: http://www.eighteensound.com/index.a...roduct&pid=243 |

I am planning a similar system with,
D3004/6620-00 12MU/4731T 26W/4867T - 4 ohm version since 12MU/4731T is 4 ohms. Also wide baffle, probably 600 by 1300.

The Illuminator looks impressive but I would never use a midrange with such excursion. A Supravox 135 looks better to me ( although I have not heard any yet ).
