Hi all, haven't posted here often but I'm looking at re-configuring my home theatre a little after completely overhauling it...
I am building a lowboy stand for my plasma TV which I would like to house my equipment, subwoofer and possibly even my centre channel. I am keen on trying a coaxial driver for my centre to avoid dispersion problems, and as for enclosing it, I have had the idea of an OB design... the cabinet area it could sit in would be about 500d x 400w x as high as it needed to be (mm), and I can do felt/foam/polyester stuffing in the rear to minimise backwave onto the wall behind it. My goal is simply very accurate vocals, no colouring, no boxy sound. As such I'd roll it off on the low end so excursion won't be too much of an issue. Either that, or a folded MTM is appealing. What are peoples' thoughts? |

Goodness me. This is the only forum I know of with 100,000+ members, yet a thread goes a week or more without a single reply.
I realise there are other OB threads but I am asking for opinions particularly with vocals as a centre speaker. How long do I need to wait for some of you clearly highly knowledgeable people to pop their heads up? |

Go for it. My main concern is I imagine the enclosure would be rater close to the wall. Moving OB speakers into the room is generally considered a good idea.

If the post is not interesting or the topic is repeated, it's a common thing that people would ignore it. It's probably you may find the answer by searching the forum. (My posts have been ignored all the time.)
Well, center speaker is no different. The possible issue might be the aesthetic things... I've once built an OB with 2x 8" widerangers and hung it on top of the TV set, let it down-tilt a bit to aim the listening position. The distance to the wall was about 20-some cm on the bottom and 30-some on the top (or the likes, I don't remember the actual numbers). 3 ft across, it's a pretty wide baffle. Some foam pads were put behind the baffle to absord excessive reflections. Played down to about 100Hz, no EQ on it. I filled the low end by another dipole bass (W baffle). It was a very rough setup but sounded pretty good... Here's the picture. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showp...&postcount=762 So, nothing special and quite easy to build. Just do it. |
