I am reading through a speaker design book. Trying to figure out about driver placement in enclosures and I came across a few statements that didn't make sense to me.
1. adjacent drivers should be mounted as close to each other as is practical. 2. The worst situation would be a circular baffle with the driver placed in the center. (see picture) ![]() Are these statement basically correct? |

The first about adjacent drivers tries to follow the "point source" concept...you want everything coming from the same general point, or in the case of multiple drivers playing the same frequency range, to minimize comb filtering effects.
As for the second, that'd be news to me...I don't know. Seems like a lot of BIB builds, for example (including Terry's original) use circular suprabaffles to minimize baffle step issues...did that on mine, too.

yes & yes;
Re the circular baffle, it gives the worst diffraction pattern. I suggest you download the 'Edge' which shows how baffle shape & driver placement affect the output

Yes indeed, read 'The Edge'.....Another huge body of science , complete with formulas,formulas,formulas.........just when you thought you had it covered.......someone has brought you more math to digest.

Thanks guys! And I'll check out the edge as well. I had seen so many enclosures with round baffles, I thought they were ok.
