I have inherited the drivers (no crossovers) from a pair of KEF Corellis (B200 SP1063 and T27 SP1032). I am fairly new to hi-fi audio, so I'd be glad of some help with a few questions:
1. I've gathered that these are quite high-quality, sought-after drivers. But just how good are they compared with modern-day equivalents? 2. I can best use them in the configuration of two 2-3 litre treble units incorporating the T27s, and a single bass unit, with one or both of the B200s. I can bi-amp the system with a 4th-order active crossover at 300Hz. Any suggestions for a midrange driver well-matched to the T27 for the 300-3.5kHz range? (probable crossover: series 1st-order at 3.5kHz). Most of what I can find (e.g. Monacor MSH-115) is "too efficient" i.e. I'd have to L-pad the midrange driver, not the tweeter… how serious a drawback is this? 3. For one (or two) B200s for the sub-300Hz range, what are my best options keeping cabinet size to a minimum? WinISD tells me a 56l vented box would give quite a good bass response, but I'm also considering a folded 1/8wave TL, which could be smaller I think. Thanks to anyone with any ideas! |

I should have made clear that the active crossover can optionally combine the <300Hz signals to a single channel, meaning that I can get away with a single bass box with one or both B200s installed. I tested an isobaric configuration in WinISD to get the 56 litre size.

OK, not a popular topic! ..... could someone maybe help me out on Question 1 though?
Should I build around these old drivers because they're good (btw I'm now thinking <150Hz is better for a merged single bass channel) or should I just buy modern unit because they are better? Sorry for the ignorance and really basic question but ... |

Factory data on your B200
http://t-linespeakers.org/drivers/b200.html These do not work well in a really small box. The usual role of the B200 was as a mid-bass all the way up to the T27 at 3.5kHz. With a 4th order XO you can probably get away with 3kHz. dave
