Any thoughs of how these any of these would work in a simple 2-way design with a horn+cd combo like 18sound XT1086 and B&C DE250? Active crossover.
I can get these woofers quite cheap, so I wondered if they really are any good for diy... |

Why not just give it a go since you can get it so cheap? (while all others won't try it because they can't get it that cheap.... )
Worst case will be keeping XT1086+DE250 and dump that Klipsch woofer if it doesn't work out. I once played with Heresy's 12" woofer and used it as a midbass in a simple 2way. The tweeter I used at that time couldn't play low so I crossed them pretty high. Heresy's woofer couldn't play high enough to merge well with the tweeter so there's a big hole centered at about 2kHz off axis. It's acceptable right on axis, though.... XT1086+DE250 can play down to 1kHz, so I don't think there'd be any problem for any woofer smaller than 15". What size of Klipsch woofer are you referring to? Personally, I don't like the looks (color) of those RF woofers though... |
