Well, I managed to blag these drivers for free today, they are out of an old PA system. I got 8, but only 4 are working, so I am thinking of knocking up a 1.5 way system for my computer, depending on their specs.
Obviously I need to measure them first, but I was just wondering if anyone had seen similar drivers before. They are 4" jobs, with a 1" voice coil and a hefty magnet, and came out of a box built in the mid nineties. The only other identification I have is that they have a code 804x on the magnet. Anyone seen anything like them before?

Those are Dynacord Speakers. Electrovoice (EV)
and Dynacord were together at one time. Don't know the relation now. One things for sure, they are not bass drivers. Midrange would be more the criteria for those speakers. I remember seeing box that held 4 of those speakers with Piezo Tweeters in them. It was like the number one top box you would find in record shops in the early to late eightees. Again, no bass driver, but should play midrange fine.

It's going to be a couple of days before I can test them, but I couldn't resist just plugging a bare driver into one of my GCs last night and they sound pretty good. Obviously no idea as to bass, but mids and highs sound great so I will probably go mostly fullrange, and I have an old 10" Audax HDA I can use to knock up a single sub if need be. Quote:

This is likely a pro varient of the FE103. Bigger magnet & surround goes the wrong way. Should make a good little FR... might need a little help above 10k. dave

You say, "Foster", but my eyes say, "Fostex."

Well, I ran them all up with my trust test GC today, and one of them has a little bit of a voice coil rub at high volumes, hmmm.
I think I will do a dustcapectomy on it tomorrow and see if there's any rubbish in the gap that I can clean up or hoover out. If that doesn't work, I may have to give up on the push-push idea ![]() Unfortunately it's been raining all day, so I haven't had chance to take them outside and do some proper measurements, however just sticking a mic on them while they were sitting on the bench seems to give a roll off at about 14k at the top, and 100Hz at the bottom. These could be quite fun
